Events & Conferences

The GHI organizes international scholarly conferences on a wide variety of historical topics in cooperation with historians at North American and German universities. The Institute also organizes public programs and lectures throughout the year featuring renowned German and North American scholars who present their research to a wider public in both the greater Washington area as well as in the San Francisco Bay area through our Pacific Regional Office. Past events that were recorded are made available as videos.

All lectures are open to the public unless otherwise noted. Conferences are not public. If you are interested in participating, please contact the responsible GHI staff member. Please see our list of all current calls for papers for opportunities to present at GHI conferences and workshops.

Covid-19 Policy: We encourage visitors to the German Historical Institute be up to date on vaccinations and wear a mask in the building. Additionally, if you are sick or feeling unwell, please stay home.
