Nov 19, 2019

Speaers: Siobhan Hagan, Karma Foley, Krzysztof Pietroszek

Please join us for three talks about digital preservation and television material! Our speakers are:

  • Siobhan Hagan - Mid-Atlantic Regional Moving Image Archive (MARMIA)
"MARMIA and the DC Public Library" - Hagan discusses her work developing the MARMIA center, for which she's director and organizer. She also discusses the relationship between public access points to preserved video at the DCPL and MARMIA.
  • Karma Foley - Smithsonian Channel
"Digital Preservation of Smithsonian Channel" - Foley discusses the differences between public and private sector preservation, and screens brief examples of recent digital work by Smithsonian Channel.
  • Krzysztof Pietroszek - American University
"Mixed-Reality Exhibition Designer" - Pietroszek discusses his augmented reality exhibitions at the Kennedy Center for the Museum of the Peace Corps Experience. MRED created holograms of Returning Peace Corps Volunteers and photogrammetry of museum artifacts for the virtual Museum of the Peace Corps Experience at the center.

Digital Cultural Heritage DC is a monthly meetup group for people interested in collecting, preserving and making available digital cultural heritage information. Our meetings begin with a few short lightning talks followed by social information exchange. This is a great networking opportunity for students, as well as anyone interested in learning about digital collections in archives, museums, libraries or anywhere else. We're interested in digital content of all kinds, including film/video, still images, text, datasets, video games and pretty much anything of value in digital form. We are an open and friendly group, and welcome all comers.
