Jan 23, 2024  | 7:30pm

Speakers: Ricky Punzalan (University of Michigan), Fallon Carey (Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition), Yolanda Hester, and Liz Flowers

Please join us for a virtual conversation about reparative cultural heritage projects. NOTE THAT THIS MEETING STARTS AT 7:30 PM EST.

7:30—Introductions

7:45—Lightning talks begin
We are fortunate to have four talented and passionate practitioners share a bit about their reparative work:

  • Ricky Punzalan is a Filipino activist and associate professor in the information school at University of Michigan who works to uncover and improve access to archives, particularly about Filipino-American history and colonization in the Philippines.
  • Fallon Carey is a digital archivist working at the Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition, an organization determined to uncover and make government-run Indian Boarding School records accessible to the public.
  • Yolanda Hester and Liz Flowers are public historians who recently embarked on an online exhibit about a nearly forgotten Black lumbering community in Oregon.

8:35—Questions for the four presenters and announcements.

9:00—Adjourn the meeting

Digital Cultural Heritage DC is a monthly meetup group for people interested in collecting, preserving and making available digital cultural heritage information. Our meetings begin with a few short lightning talks followed by social information exchange. This is a great networking opportunity for students, as well as anyone interested in learning about digital collections in archives, museums, libraries or anywhere else. We're interested in digital content of all kinds, including film/video, still images, text, datasets, video games and pretty much anything of value in digital form. We are an open and friendly group, and welcome all comers.
