Transit: Film and Panel Discussion at AFI Silver

Films Screening and Panel Discussion at AFI Silver | Speakers: Marike Janzen (University of Kansas), Eric Jennings (University of Toronto), Simone Lässig (GHI Washington)

The film Transit, an adaptation of Anna Segher’s 1942 novel of the same title, received wide acclaim upon its release in Europe earlier this year. The GHI, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, has organized a special presentation of Transit in conjunction with the American Film Institute’s European Union Film Showcase. On Saturday, December 8, Transit will be screened at AFI Silver at 4:30 pm. The film will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Marike Janzen and Eric Jennings; the event will conclude with a reception.

Speakers

Marike Janzen teaches German and comparative literature at the University of Kansas. She is the author of Writing to Change the World: Anna Seghers, Authorship, and International Solidarity in the Twentieth Century (2018).

Eric Jennings, a specialist in the history of France and its colonies, is a professor of history at the University of Toronto. His books include Escape from Vichy: The Refugee Exodus to the French Caribbean (2018).
