In September 2024, state elections took place in the eastern German states of Saxony and Thuringia, while upcoming elections are scheduled in Brandenburg. Following the European elections held in June 2024, which highlighted a notable shift towards the right-wing populist fringes and new party formations, this virtual event becomes even more pertinent.
In light of these developments, historian Prof. Christina Morina, Nadine Lindner (Deutschlandradio, Berlin) and Matthias Ecke, Member of the European Parliament from Saxony will join us to discuss the implications of these regional elections. The virtual event will explore what the election results in Saxony, Thuringia, and Brandenburg reveal about the state of German democracy and political culture. We will also delve into regional trends, the historical context for these political shifts, and the implications of the results for the federal elections in 2025. The discussion will be followed by Q & A with the audience.
