Marion Kaplan in conversation with the International Standing Working Group "In Global Transit"

Mar 08, 2023  | 1:30 - 3:00pm ET

Seminar at the GHI | Speaker: Marion Kaplan (New York University)

Following a successful series of conferences, workshops, and public lectures on the topic of "(Jewish) Refugees in Global Transit," the German Historical Institute Washington launched the international standing working group “In Global Transit.” This working group explores spatial and temporal as well as social and material dimensions of transit experiences in global migration history. It regularly convenes scholars from the GHI Washington and researchers from a broad network across different countries and disciplines. Together, members engage in discussions and share insights on current research related to refugee history, migration studies, and the concept of transit. Marion Kaplan (New York University) will join as a special guest to discuss her research on Jewish transit in Portugal.

This event is by invitation only. If you would like to learn more about the network and past activities related to "In Global Transit," please visit https://transit.hypotheses.org/ or the recently published interview in which GHI Director Simone Lässig explains potentials and perspectives of transit research and our motivation behind the international standing working group.
