Immigration of European Highly Skilled Workers to Germany: Intra-EU Brain Circulation or Brain Drain/Gain?

GHI-West is co-presenting a lecture by Céline Teney, University of Bremen on Immigration of European Highly Skilled Workers to Germany on Thursday, January 25, 12-1 pm PST at 201 Moses Hall, UC Berkeley. The event is hosted by the Institute of European Studies (IES).

Based on a representative survey and semi-structured interviews of non-German EU physicians working in Germany, Céline Teney will investigate whether intra-EU highly skilled immigrants who exercise a profession suffering from an acute EU labor shortage constitute the manifestation of an integrated European labor market – conceptualized as brain circulation – or whether they contribute to the emergence of an intra-EU brain drain/gain.

Céline Teney is leading a research group on Transnationalization of Society, Politics and the Economy at the University of Bremen, Germany. She completed her PhD thesis in Brussels and worked as senior researcher at the Berlin Social Science Center. Her research interests encompass immigration, EU integration and political sociology.
