IT Administrator / IT Support / IT Help Desk Specialist

The German Historical Institute Washington DC (part of the Max Weber Foundation – International Humanities in Bonn, Germany) seeks to fill the following full-time position as soon as possible: IT Support / IT Help Desk Specialist.

The GHI Washington is a bilingual (German and English) work environment and an institution that supports comparative research with a transatlantic focus. It undertakes intermediate and long-term projects in theoretically informed research and practice-oriented research infrastructures, and seeks to foster inter- and transdisciplinary cooperation.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for day-to-day operations including installation, configuration, and maintenance of systems.
  • Participate in technical research and development to enable ongoing innovation within the infrastructure.
  • Work closely with team members to resolve technical issues, as well as perform routine tasks such as monitoring, server management, user and group administration, software installation, imaging, etc.
  • Apply patch and security changes per policy and pro-actively monitor the environment for patch
  • compliance.
  • Participate in long- and short-range technology planning.
  • Maintain documentation for configurations, operating procedures, and service records relating to the infrastructure and software.
  • Troubleshoot Windows & MacOS networks, storage, applications.
  • Reliably and rapidly process and prioritize support requests in English whether via telephone, email or on site.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in IT or IS or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Windows System Administration, preferably in an Enterprise environment, supporting large-scale servers.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, maintains integrity and configure network components along with implementing operating-system enhancements to improve reliability and performance.
  • Strong Windows knowledge, analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Strong MS Office 2010-2016 knowledge.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to establish and maintain security and integrity controls by planning, testing, and performing scheduled and unschedusled maintenance activities, and take corrective actions prior to failures.
  • Ability to be a team player, including coordinating and collaborating across multiple teams and  endors to achieve common goals or success.
  • Ability to learn, transfer knowledge, and train staff on new technologies.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to participate in technical meetings.
