Transatlantic Perspectives: Europe in the Eyes of European Immigrants to the United States, 1930-1980 is a four year interdisciplinary research project funded by a grant from the German Ministry of Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung).

The project traces transcultural perspectives on Europe and the emergence of hybrid European identities among European immigrants and émigrés in the United States between the 1930s and 1970s. How did immigrants who left the continent look back at Europe? Did immigrants and émigrés bring European perspectives into a postwar transatlantic world dominated by the United States? Through four individual research projects, Transatlantic Perspectives focuses on migrant professionals involved in business, consumer culture, urban development, and the social sciences. In addition to issues of identity, the project examines how these migrants acted as conduits for social and intellectual transfers between Europe and the United States.

In addition to descriptions of the research and upcoming conferences and events, the website contains documents and images, bibliographies and source collections, essays on migrants and transatlantic institutions, and tools and resources for educators.
