The History of Neighborly Life in Germany in the 20th Century

Ronny Grundig

This project explores how spatial configurations and everyday interactions shaped social identity and cohesion in German neighborhoods throughout the 20th century. It combines classical historical analysis with digital methods to analyze and map informations from arbitration records, sociological surveys, and police files. The project reconstructs the evolution of neighborhood structures and informal social relations across different urban and rural contexts based on archival material from three urban centers (Dortmund, Plauen, Solingen) and their hinterlands.
