"New York Times" report sparks international media coverage of Holocaust research presented at the GHI.
In its March 2, 2013 Sunday Edition, the New York Times reported on recent research on the Holocaust presented at a panel discussion at the German Historical Institute, which was organized in cooperation with the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. At the panel discussion, researchers reported having cataloged some 42,500 Nazi ghettos and camps throughout Europe. GHI Director Hartmut Berghoff, quoted in the Times, noted that this number was "much higher than what we originally thought." The prominent and lengthy New York Times piece sparked international media coverage.
