GHI Research Fellow Jan C. Jansen appointed Junior Professor at the University Duisburg- Essen

August 24, 2020

Jan C. Jansen has been appointed the Junior Professor (with tenure track) in Global Mobility from 18th to the 20th Century at the University Duisburg- Essen.

Congratulations to GHI Research Fellow Jan C. Jansen on his appointment as the Junior Professor with tenure track in Global Mobility from 18th to the 20th Century at the University Duisburg- Essen. The newly established professorship aims at strengthening perspectives of recent global and interdependent history since the 18th century in both research and teaching. Furthermore it will act as an interface between the focal points in European and non-European history represented at the Historical Institute of the University of Duisburg-Essen. With its temporal profile, the professorship also forms a bridge across the classical epochal boundary between Early Modern Times and Modern and Contemporary History.

Jan will also link the 1.5 million Euro starting grant, which he was awarded by the European Research Council, to the professorship in order to establish a project on the refugee movements that shaped the Atlantic revolutionary era between the American Revolution and the revolutions in Spanish America (1770s to 1820s). Through this project and other measures, he wants to strengthen refugee history as a new field of historical research.
