GHI Washington and UC Berkeley Sign Cooperation Agreement for GHI WEST

January 6, 2017

The German Historical Institute Washington DC is pleased to announce the establishment of its new West Coast branch office, GHI WEST. The new office will facilitate the GHI’s cooperation with scholars in the western U.S. and Canada. This expansion is part of the Institute’s initiative to contribute to the scholarly community continent-wide, and to grow the connections amongst scholars, both within the discipline of history and in a cross-cutting, interdisciplinary manner.

On December 2, 2016, Simone Laessig, Director of the GHI, and Jeroen Dewulf, Director of the Institute of European Studies (IES) at the University of California, Berkeley signed a cooperation agreement, in which the two parties agreed to work together to establish the new GHI branch office in Berkeley.

GHI WEST is expected to open over the course of 2017. GHI representatives will be involved in organizing conferences, hosting seminars and setting up lectures. The research focus of the new branch office will be on “Migration and Knowledge."
