Biographical Summary

Kerstin von der Krone was a research fellow at the German Historical Institute Washington from January 2016 to June 2019. She is currently an affiliated scholar at the Institute and co-editor of the GHI blog History of Knowledge: Research, Resources, and Perspectives as well as the Head of Judaica Division, University Library, Goethe University Frankfurt am Main.

Her fields of research include Jewish history in Central Europe in the modern era and the history of Jewish thought; she focuses in particular on communication practices related to education and scholarship and the transformation of knowledge and knowledge production. 

She studied Jewish Studies, Political Science, and Media and Communication Studies in Berlin and Tel Aviv and holds a master’s degree from Freie Universität Berlin (2004). She received her PhD from the University of Erfurt in 2010 with a dissertation on Jewish scholarship in nineteenth and early twentieth century that shed light on the role of academic journals as means of scholarly communication and exchange, and as a public arena to negotiate the relationship between Judaism and modern scholarship, i.e. critical historical research.
