Biographical Summary

I am an Assistant Professor of Imperial Russian History at Georgetown. My first book, Spies and Scholars: Chinese Secrets and the Pursuit of World Power in Imperial Russia, is forthcoming from Harvard University Press in Spring 2020. It looks at the relationship between Russia and China through the lens of knowledge, tracing how espionage and academic scholarship changed the Russian Empire’s place in the world. At the GHI, I’m beginning to gather material for my second project—a study of the role of Russia in the conservative reaction to the greater French Revolution.
