Volkswagen Postdoctoral Fellowships

The Volkswagen postdoctoral fellowship in postwar German history was made possible by a grant from the Volkswagen Foundation and was jointly administered from 1991 to 1997 by the German Historical Institute and the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies. Fellowships were awarded to promising young historians and political scientists from Europe and the United States in order to support their research on post-World War II German history and German-American relations. Fellows were expected to pursue their research at archives in the Washington, D.C. area and to deliver lectures at the two institutes on the subjects of their research.
