Fellowships for Doctoral Students

The German Historical Institute awards short-term fellowships to German and American doctoral students in the fields of German history, the history of German-American relations, the role of Germany and the United States in international relations, and American history. The doctoral fellowships are intended to support graduate students who work on their dissertation research. All fellows are required to present their research at the German Historical Institute in Washington, D.C. during their grant period. Depending on funds available, it may be possible to extend the scholarship by one month (up to a maximum duration of six months).
