About the Authors

Robert P. Grathwol is a historian, researcher, writer, and former university professor. Since 1988, as a partner in R&D Associates, he has concentrated his research on the Cold War. In 1992 he completed a major study for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on military construction in Europe from 1945 to 1991. He is the author of Stresemann and the DNVP (Lawrence: The Regents Press of Kansas, 1980) and co-author of American Forces in Berlin: Cold War Outpost, 1945-1994 (Washington: Government Printing Office, 1994). Dr. Grathwol has a B.A. from Providence College, a Diplôme Supérieur from the University of Strasbourg, France, and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.


Donita M. Moorhus is an oral historian, researcher, and writer. Since 1988 she has conducted more than four hundred interview sessions with officers of the U.S. military, civilian employees of the U.S. government, business leaders, foreign nationals, and journalists. She is co-author with Dr. Grathwol of the study of military construction in Europe and American Forces in Berlin. As managing partner of R&D Associates, Ms. Moorhus serves as the project manager for historical research and is a consultant on oral history projects. She has a B.A. from the University of Michigan and an M.S. from Fordham University.


Douglas J. Wilson is a researcher and writer. Since 1992 he has been a consulting assistant to R&D Associates, performing historical, archival, bibliographic, and photographic research for the study of military construction in Europe and American Forces in Berlin. In addition to transcribing and editing interviews for several oral history projects, he served as project assistant for the "Women in Journalism" oral history project of the Washington Press Club Foundation. Mr. Wilson has a B.A. from Colorado State University and an M.A. from The George Washington University.
