Gerald D. Feldman Memorial Lecture Endowment

The Friends of the German Historical Institute Washington, DC are seeking to establish an endowment to support an annual Gerald D. Feldman Lecture.

Gerald D. Feldman, 1937 - 2007

Gerald Feldman (1937–2007) taught history at the University of California, Berkeley. There are very few individuals who have contributed so greatly to the transatlantic historical dialogue. Gerald Feldman published groundbreaking works on the history of World War One, the German hyperinflation of the 1920s, and the history of German corporations. In addition to these achievements he was an inspiring teacher who mentored an extraordinary number of young historians who went on to make their mark in the field.

Gerald Feldman was a key figure in reappraising the role of German corporations during the National Socialist regime, and he served as an advisor and contributor on significant projects in the field. He also sat on the editorial board of the journal Contemporary European History for more than fifteen years, served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Friends of the GHI and as director of Berkeley’s Center for German and European Studies. The Gerald D. Feldman Lecture Series will commemorate these and his many other achievements.
