AHA Awards Book Prize to Suzanne Marchand, "German Orientalism" |

The American Historical Association has awarded its 2010 George L. Mosse Prize to Suzanne L. Marchand for her book German Orientalism in the Age of Empire: Religion, Race, and Scholarship, which was published in the "Publications of the German Historical Institute" series. The Mosse Prize is awarded annually to "an outstanding major work of extraordinary scholarly distinction, creativity, and originality in the intellectual and cultural history of Europe since the Renaissance." It was presented to Marchand on January 7, 2011, during the AHA's annual meeting. Marchand, a professor of history at Louisiana State University, is also the author of Down From Olympus: Archaeology and Philhellenism in Germany, 1750-1970 and numerous essays on the history of scholarship and the humanities.
