|
The German Historical Institute and the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies jointly offered, in cooperation with the German-American Academic Council Foundation and the National Endowment for the Humanities, a research program for postdoctoral scholars on the topic of continuity, change, and globalization in postwar Germany and America. This program was designed to further communication and collaboration between American and German scholars of postwar topics. The selection process differed for American and German applicants: American participants were selected through the established review process of the National Endowment for the Humanities, while German participants were considered by a committee with representatives from the German Historical Institute and the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies. As Visiting Research Scholars, recipients were expected to discuss the results of their research in workshops and symposia held at the German Historical Institute and the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies.
