Former GHI Research Fellow Astrid M. Eckert has been interviewed about her recently published study The Struggle for the Files: The Western Allies and the Return of German Archives after the Second World War by New Books in History. Documents - ranging from Nazi Party membership records and diplomatic correspondence to technical reports and military maps - were among the most prized trophies of war seized by Allied troops in Germany during the closing weeks of World War II. In The Struggle for the Files, Eckert traces the uses made of the captured German documents and the controversies, scholarly and political, surrounding them. The Struggle for the Files: The Western Allies and the Return of German Archives after the Second World War was published earlier this year in the Publications of the German Historical Institute series with Cambridge University Press. Astrid M. Eckert is an associate professor of history at Emory University. |
