German History in Documents and Images

German History in Documents and Images (GHDI) is a comprehensive bilingual collection of original historical materials documenting German history from the beginning of the early modern period to the present. The project comprises ten sections, each of which addresses a discrete period in Germany's history. In addition to primary texts, GHDI also offers new access to a range of historically significant visual images and maps.

A research project and digital archive exploring links between the military service of African American GIs in Germany and the advancement of civil rights in the U.S. through a comprehensive database of documents, images, videos, and oral history interviews.

The Nuclear Crisis: Transatlantic Peace Politics, Rearmament, and the Second Cold War

A research project and digital archive devoted to the European and North American debates about nuclear armament during the 1970s and 80s, combining political history with a study of protest cultures as well as discussions of nuclear death in popular culture.

Immigrant Entrepreneurship: German American Business Biographies, 1720 to the Present

This research project focuses on the entrepreneurial and economic capacity of immigrants by investigating the German-American example in the U.S. Separated into five volumes, the project traces the lives and business ventures of 250 eminent German-American businesspeople. In addition to biographical articles and short contextual essays, the site includes numerous visual materials and primary documents.

Transatlantic Perspectives: Europe in the Eyes of European Immigrants to the United States, 1930-1980

This research project traces transcultural perspectives on Europe and the emergence of hybrid European identities among European immigrants and émigrés in the United States between the 1930s and 1970s. The website contains documents and images, bibliographies and source collections, essays on migrants and transatlantic institutions, and tools and resources for educators.

Medieval History: An Introduction for University Students

The project was designed for beginning students and members of the general public with historical interests as an introduction to the professional study of history. One of its main goals is to lay the conceptual foundations for an engagement with the Middle Ages that goes beyond cliches to help viewers build a problem-oriented and open-ended sense of medieval history.
