a Lecture by Adam McKeown (Columbia University)
An associate professor of history at Columbia University, Adam McKeown is an expert on the history of global migrations, particularly with reference to Chinese and Asian migrations. He has also written on the Chinese diaspora and the history of passports and migration control. His publications include Chinese Migrant Networks and Cultural Change: Peru, Chicago, Hawaii, 1900-1936 (2001) and Melancholy Order: Asian Migration and the Globalization of Borders, 1834-1937 (forthcoming).
Prof. McKeown’s lecture is the opening event of the conference Connecting Atlantic, Indian Ocean, China Seas, and Pacific Migration 1830s to 1930s. This conference has been jointly organized by the German Historical Institute, the International Institute of Social History, and the Immigrant History Research Center.Please RSVP by November 30, 2007 (acceptances only)
