With its 36 volumes, The Fischer World History (first edition 1965–1983) is unmatched as a publishing venture. A team of renowned experts is currently working on a new edition of this monumental work and is pursuing a "world regional history" approach. Wolfgang Schwentker (University of Osaka and editor of the series) and Christoph Cornelißen (University of Frankfurt and editor of the volume Europa im 20. Jahrhundert) will present the project at the German Historical Institute Paris. Centering around the challenges of "writing world history" in a broader context, the panel discussion will focus on the role of entanglement and narrative formation. Harald Fischer-Tiné (ETH Zurich) will comment from the research perspective of the Indian subcontinent, Merry Wiesner-Hanks (University of Wisconsin-Madison and editor of Cambridge World History) from the perspective of the anglo-american research, Quentin Deluermoz (University Sorbonne-Paris-Nord) from the perspective of the French research and Catherine Coquery-Vidrovitch (University of Paris) from the perspective of the research on the sub-Saharan Africa.
